As part of a multi-year brand evolution, W Hotels is ushering in a new era with sophisticated detail-driven design

New Orleans, LA – March 19, 2024W New Orleans – French Quarter, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio of over 30 extraordinary hotel brands, today debuts the highly-anticipated multimillion-dollar renovation of its 97 reimagined guest rooms and carriage houses. Led by Canadian design firm Chapi Chapo Design, the city’s bustling and vibrant epicenter is at the heart and soul of this project, and masterfully captures the intricate textures and soothing tones reminiscent of New Orleans’ world-famous Bayou.

“We are proud to welcome guests to experience a mélange of history, mystique, and modern luxury in our all-new guest rooms and carriage houses,” says Derek Tueller, General Manager of W New Orleans – French Quarter. “For this project, the teams drew inspiration from the authentic charm of this one-of-a-kind city, inviting guests on a captivating journey through design. Now, each elevated yet still playful space is a treasure trove awaiting discovery, where classic New Orleans-style touches every corner.”

From Sazerac to Swingin’ Jazz – Local Influence Abounds

Guests can escape the bustle of Bourbon Street to explore the allure of the Bayou. Each design element conveys a story of its own, meticulously curated with intention to transport guests behind the hotel’s facade and immerse them in the enigmatic charm of the renowned swamplands – all within the comfort of their room.

A bold navy backdrop with French-style wall moldings distinguishes the bedroom from the seating area in each guest room with an open floor plan. Touches of Sazerac orange – the official spirit of New Orleans – are present throughout the design, and the rooms are completed with marble coffee tables, gold hardware, soft lighting, and framed black-and-white line drawings of Jazz singers in action. Varying layers and tones blend together to create textural gumbo that seamlessly works together.

From the Spanish Moss-inspired sconces to the custom-made floor lamps which project a backlit visual of an ornate bayou canopy onto the ceiling, the redesign was curated to give guests the authentic and intimate vibe of a sanctuary, where local touches are never too distant. Each room’s MIX Bar (mini bar) was strategically designed with nods to a treasure chest, an homage to Louisiana’s famed lore about character Jean Lafitte: a French pirate who hid his treasure in the bayou.

“Being born and raised in Paris, I felt a strong connection to this project given Louisiana’s robust French influence,” said Boris Mathias, Partner at Chapi Chapo Design. “This design was inherently a dance between the rich history woven into the French Quarter’s streets, the architectural tapestry, and the buzzing social pulse that resonates through the city. We are proud to unveil a design that welcomes guests to step behind the veil, surrender to the magic and enjoy the enchantment of the Bayou.
