WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 15, 2020 –The Kimpton Banneker Hotel, managed by Valor Hospitality Partners, announced today the appointment of Raeshawna Scott as General Manager and Dennis Hernandez as Director of Sales and Marketing. The 144-room euro-modern luxury boutique hotel, set to open in the heart of Washington, D.C. in early 2021, will immerse guests in the rich history and urban culture of the nation’s capital with nods to profound figures like Benjamin Banneker and Claudia Alta “Lady Bird” Johnson.

As general manager, Scott will lead day-to-day hotel operations, guest relations and team development for The Banneker. A seasoned hospitality leader, Scott brings 18 years of hospitality experience to her position, along with a passion for heart-felt guest interactions and developing future hospitality leaders. Scott has been with the Kimpton Hotel family for 10 years and has held various leadership roles, including director of housekeeping, front office manager, assistant general manager and general manager, later becoming part of the Valor Hospitality Partners team in September 2019.

As director of sales and marketing, Hernandez will lead the sales and marketing team with a strong focus on client and community engagement, guest services touch points and profitability. A tenured industry authority, Hernandez brings 30 years of experience to the property, with expertise in comprehensive strategies, revenue growth and brand positioning. Prior to joining The Banneker, Hernandez worked with a wide range of global brands including Viacom/MTV, Ace Hotel Group, Cvent and Hilton Hotels. A native Washingtonian, Hernandez returned to D.C. in 2013 and was instrumental in the grand opening of The Embassy Row Hotel in 2015, as well as other independent lifestyle brands globally.

“A local myself, I know how diverse the neighborhood is and can relate to the inspirational encounters guests are yearning for,” said Hernandez. “In my new role, I’m looking forward to working closely with Rae and the greater team to continuously surprise guests with progressive initiatives. Situated near some of the city’s top cultural and historic attractions, including the White House, National Mall, Dupont Circle, and countless museums and art galleries, The Banneker will feature curated artwork throughout, along with 3,800 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting space. The hotel will also be home to two dining options, including rooftop bar and open-air deck, Lady Bird, named after prior First Lady Claudia Alta “Lady Bird” Johnson, and Le Sel, a French bistro with a modern twist serving elevated comfort food prepared with locally sourced ingredients.
