June 14, 2023 – Shou Sugi Ban House, the Hamptons’ first destination spa and wellness retreat, today announced the appointment of Chris Pulito as General Manager of the acclaimed wellness property. Pulito officially stepped into the newly created role last month, in advance of the Hamptons’ peak summer season.

With nearly three decades of extensive hospitality experience, Pulito will be responsible for managing all day-to-day operations for the luxury wellness resort, including the world-class culinary program designed by Michelin-starred chef Mads Refslund, as well as the management of Shou Sugi Ban Spa, and two standalone luxury residences.

“I am confident that under Chris’ leadership, Shou Sugi Ban House will continue to exceed the expectations of our guests and the community,” said Kathleen Kapnick, Co-founder & Owner of Shou Sugi Ban House. “Given his considerable accomplishments, understanding of hospitality and the guest experience, and his dedication and commitment, Chris is well-positioned to grow and build upon the strength and reputation that Shou Sugi Ban House has established in a relatively short time.”

“It is an honor to lead this special property and I look forward to working with Kathleen and this talented team,” said Pulito. “I believe that my experience opening and running world-class spas, and operating luxury resorts, make this role a perfect fit for both the property and me.” Continued Pulito, “Shou Sugi Ban House has already garnered incredible awards and accolades, and it is our goal to continue creating unique experiences and elevating the property to even greater heights as a team in the years ahead.”

Pulito’s impressive career in spa and hospitality spans key executive roles in operations, programming, spa and wellness, and food and beverage, always with a focus on ensuring unique, seamless luxury experiences for guests, while synergistically employing his financial acumen to grow the business and increase revenue. Prior to joining Shou Sugi Ban House, Pulito most recently served as the General Manager of The Lake House on Canandaigua, and previously held that same title at Mirbeau Inn & Spa, and Whiteface Lodge; as well serving as Spa Director at The Four Seasons Hotel New York City, Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa, and Topnotch Resort & Spa, over the years.

Last month, Co-founder Amy Cherry-Abitbol stepped back as CEO of Shou Sugi Ban House and sold her interest in the business back to her co-founding partner, Kathleen Kapnick. Said Kapnick, “I would like to acknowledge and thank Amy for bringing her vision for Shou Sugi Ban House to fruition and for the years of dedication and hard work that went into developing the property and the team. I wish her great success in her next venture.”
