Esteemed Industry Veteran Joins the Executive Team to Lead the 889-Room Hotel to New Heights

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 1, 2023)InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown is pleased to announce the appointment of Sven Wiedenhaupt to the role of general manager, who began his tenure at the esteemed property in June. As a seasoned hospitality professional, Wiedenhaupt brings over 40 years of experience to the hotel, where he leads a culturally rich and highly-engaged team.

A luminary within the industry, Wiedenhaupt has an exceptional track record with the development and building of teams, employee engagement, financial performance, sales and revenue strategies, and food and beverage enhancement. Prior to his new appointment at InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, Wiedenhaupt served as the general manager of the Indian Wells Golf Resort, Troon. His experience expands upon both international and domestic roles, holding leadership positions at a variety of esteemed hospitality groups including Four Seasons, Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, The Estate Yountville, and Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

With the ability to wear many hats, Wiedenhaupt’s expansive career began as a kitchen porter responsible for washing pots and pans at the Leather Bottle in Mattingley, Hampshire, before becoming a fry cook at the local train station in the town of Hook, Hampshire. From there, Wiedenhaupt attended L’Ecole Hôtelière De Lausanne, in Switzerland, where after a few years and many adventures he ultimately landed his first role as director of food and beverage at Four Seasons Hotel in New York City. In this role, he led the five-star hotel’s culinary team in menu development, saving initiatives, and the refresh and opening of three outlets, working with Joel Robuchon in establishing the iconic LAtelier De Joel Robuchon.
