SAN FRANCISCO, September 2018 – Summer has brought new additions to key roles at the iconic Fairmont San Francisco with the appointment of Sion Edwards as Director of Sales & Marketing and Darren Matsumoto as Director of Conference Services.
Sion Edwards, Fairmont San Francisco Director of Sales & Marketing
Sion began his Fairmont Hotels & Resorts career in 2000 as an Assistant Reception Manager at Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, ON. He soon transitioned to the Conference Services team at the hotel, where he held several positions including Conference Concierge Manager, Executive Meetings Manager and Conference Services-Catering Manager before being promoted to Assistant Director of Conference Services & Catering. In 2010, Sion took his career to California and worked as the Director of Convention Services & Catering at Fairmont San Francisco.
In 2013, Sion transitioned his career to the Sales arena as Sales Director at Fairmont San Francisco. Sion returns to San Francisco after serving as Director of Sales & Marketing at Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa since 2014.

Sion graduated from George Brown College School of Hospitality with a degree in Hotel Management.
Darren Matsumoto, Fairmont San Francisco Director of Conference Services
Darren brings more than 15 years of experience to his new role and most recently served as Director of Conference Services & Catering at Fairmont Orchid, a 32-acre, tropical island paradise located beach front on the big island of Hawaii.
Prior to Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Darren began his hospitality career in 2001 at Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa, where he held several progressive positions including Catering & Convention Services Manager, Group Sales Manager and Associate Director of Catering & Convention Services. In 2009, he relocated to Seattle and continued his career with Grand Hyatt Seattle as an Associate Director of Catering & Convention Services, followed by a move to Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa in Bernalillo, New Mexico in 2010, serving there as Director of Catering & Convention Services. He then took on the same role in ANdAZ Maui at Wailea from 2013 to 2014.
Darren notes that he is particularly inspired by Fairmont San Francisco’s rich history and looks forward to planning and servicing the City’s most memorable and celebrated events attended by guests from around the world.
A native of Honolulu, HI, Darren earned his Bachelor of Science in English at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
