Mountaintop Resort to Debut on Leap Day, Feb. 29, 2024

(RISING FAWN, Ga.) – Cloudland at McLemore Resort – the marquee Curio Collection by Hilton resort perched atop Lookout Mountain – proudly announces Leap Day, Feb. 29, 2024, as its official opening date and the appointment of Mike Burton as its general manager.

Situated 30 minutes from Chattanooga and less than two hours from the Atlanta metro area, Cloudland is the Southeast’s most anticipated hotel opening. The Curio Collection by Hilton property will offer 245 guest rooms, including 19 suites and 20,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting and event space.

“Crafting Cloudland at McLemore Resort was a vision close to my heart since the inception of the McLemore development, and witnessing its realization is truly awe-inspiring,” says Duane Horton, President of Scenic Land Company, the visionary behind McLemore. “We eagerly anticipate extending a warm invitation to guests worldwide, offering an unparalleled blend of high-touch service and luxury amenities perched upon the breathtaking Lookout Mountain. Embracing the famed Southern hospitality and allure of my childhood roots, our aim is to immerse visitors in an unforgettable travel experience.”

In addition to the lodging and event space, guests will enjoy a range of amenities, including two restaurants, a cliff-edge infinity pool and sky bar, access to two exceptional golf courses (The Highlands Course and The Cairn short course), and a full-service spa, along with endless opportunities to explore Lookout Mountain and surrounding areas. A third golf course, The Keep, is currently under construction and is set to open later in 2024.

Aside from its proximity to regional hubs and major airports, Cloudland’s unique location highlights the unspoiled simplicity of nature that spans as far as the eye can see. Access to the outdoors, whether within the gates of McLemore or beyond, is endless, with scenic hikes, rock climbing, road cycling, hang gliding and more just minutes from Cloudland.

Burton comes to Cloudland from The Westin Jackson, where he was the general manager at the Mississippi hotel for six years. Before that, he was the general manager at The Westin Chicago Northwest. Burton also spent time in the Dallas area, serving as the Hotel Manager at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel and the Director of Operations at The Westin Galleria Dallas. His professional career also includes stints at the Westin Riverwalk in San Antonio, the Sheraton Birmingham, and as a chef at Gina’s By The Sea in the Cape Cod region of Massachusetts.

Burton graduated from Florida International University and also studied culinary arts in Michigan. The hotels Burton managed have received numerous industry awards and accolades, thanks mostly to his belief that exceptional customer service is about consistency.

“We’re thrilled to have Mike join Cloudland as its new General Manager,” says Horton. “He is highly respected by industry peers and has vast knowledge on operating a resort hotel before, during and after its opening.”

“Having followed McLemore since 2018, my aspiration now, being part of this extraordinary place, is to elevate Cloudland to its pinnacle, offering guests an unmatched golf destination coupled with an elevated resort experience,” Burton adds. “The resort’s debut will set the tone, and our aim is nothing short of hitting a home run in 2024.”
