Hotel Online Special Report Thakral Holdings Ltd Appoints Accor as Managers of the Hindley Parkroyal in Adelaide To be rebranded Novotel to complete Accor’s national hotel network 10 February, 2000: Thakral Holdings Ltd has appointed Accor as managers of their prime Adelaide hotel, the Hindley Parkroyal. Accor will take over management of the hotel from current managers, Southern Pacific Hotels Corporation (recently purchased by Bass), from 18 April 2000, when the hotel will be rebranded Novotel Adelaide on Hindley.

The management contract follows Accor’s recent acquisition from Thakral of the All Seasons group, which has 27 hotels under management.

The relaunch to Novotel follows the opening of the Novotel Canberra, completing the brand’s mainland capital city network. Novotel is also the only international brand to be represented in every state and territory in Australia.

The addition of the Novotel will increase the Novotel network in Australia to 19 hotels and resorts, and some 350 Novotels globally.

The hotel is regarded as Adelaide’s leading 4-star hotel and enjoys a premier location on Hindley Street in the heart of the central business district. The 178 room hotel is a popular base for business travellers, with a large number of suites and six conference rooms, with a maximum capacity of 568 delegates.

For leisure travellers, the Novotel offers easy access to the Rundle Mall shopping precinct, Adelaide Casino and the Festival Centre. The hotel has a heated swimming pool and gym.

“This is a highly strategic addition for the Accor and Novotel networks in Australia,” said David Baffsky, Chairman of Accor Asia Pacific.

Hindley Parkroyal Hotel Adelaide is centrally located in Adelaide’s commercial and entertainment district, close to the Casino, Festival Centre, State Theatre, Exhibition and Entertainment Centre.

“We have been seeking a hotel in Adelaide for a number of years, and the Hindley ideally fits the Novotel brand. It joins a network of prime business and resort hotels and follows the opening of two very high-profile Novotels in Canberra and at Homebush Bay, the site of the 2000 Games.”

Accor Managing Director Australia/New Zealand, Mr Michael Issenberg, added: “For corporate travellers no other hotel group can offer such a comprehensive network of ‘business class’ hotels. This is an important advantage when dealing with corporate clients, conference organisers, inbound tour operators and government. It allows a one-stop shop, with a guarantee of consistent quality of product and service.”

Accor is the world’s largest hotel and tourism company, with over 3,200 hotels (including 90 in Australia) under the Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure, Ibis and Formule 1 brands. Accor is also a European leader in travel agencies, catering, restaurants, casinos and corporate services.
