June ’99 Las Vegas Visitor Volume Up 13.3 Percent LAS VEGAS, Aug. 16, 1999 – Continuing a run of strong travel patterns in 1999, Las Vegas visitor volume increased by 13.3 percent in June compared to the same period a year ago, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). It was the largest monthly increase since October 1994. Year-to-date visitor volume is up 9.6 percent.
Citywide hotel and motel occupancy was 87.3 percent in June, up 2.4 points, despite a growth in room inventory of 10.8 percent during the same period. Hotel occupancy was 92.5 percent in June, up 2.2 points.
Clark County’s gaming revenue increased by 12.1 percent in June 1999. Convention attendance increased by 17.6 percent.
The number of passengers traveling through McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas was up 12.3 percent in June, and automobile traffic from Southern California to Las Vegas increased by 12.9 percent.
Five destination resorts are opening in Las Vegas this year. Mandalay Bay and the Four Seasons opened their joint Strip property on March 2. The Venetian and The Resort at Summerlin opened this summer. The Paris-Las Vegas resort debuts in September 1999.
Las Vegas visitor volume has been climbing since September 1998. Visitor volume was up 2.8 in September; 4.9 percent in October; 1.7 percent in November; 6.7 percent in December, 7.4 percent in January, 7.7 percent in February, 11.3 percent in March, 9.1 percent in April, 8.5 percent in May and 13.3 percent in June.
