ATLANTA– (October 16, 2018)— Community Smith at Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel announces Frederick “Fred” Gilbert as executive chef. In his new role, Gilbert will oversee operations of the popular breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch destination in Midtown.

“We are pleased to welcome Chef Gilbert to Community Smith,” said Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel general manager Martin van der Laan. “His culinary experience, creativity and passion for food will provide our guests with an elevated dining experience.”

Chef Gilbert has honed his skills in the kitchens of various hotels and restaurants around the country. In his past role as executive chef at Atlanta Marriott Northwest Galleria in Marietta, he created made-from-scratch recipes with locally-sourced ingredients to develop his menus.

“It’s important to know where your food comes from,” said Gilbert. “I believe in using fresh, locally-grown ingredients whenever possible and I am excited to add some of my Southern favorites to the menu.”

In his free time, Gilbert tends to his home garden of basil, cilantro and a variety of heirloom vegetables and uses them to garnish his dishes.

Gilbert is excited about joining Community Smith and will remain committed to his food philosophy of using local, sustainable ingredients to create his seasonal menus.
