Oct. 12–Officials are getting Mustang Island's largest resort hotel back on its feet after it sustained extensive damage.
Port Royal Ocean Resort and Conference Center will begin hosting a limited number of guests beginning April 1. An official reopening is scheduled for early June 2018, according to a news release.
Hurricane Harvey left significant damage to the resort's roofs, elevators, HVAC systems, its pool area and several exterior walls, the release states.
"The fact that we are able to confidently and publicly announce our plans to re-open so quickly after we incurred significant damage from Hurricane Harvey is a true testament to our board's planning, the hard work and tireless dedication of our team, and the incredible support from our partners," General Manager Kendra Kinnison said in the release.
Signature Group and AmTech stepped in to provide equipment and labor to help in recovery efforts, the release states. Kinnison also credits the company's preparedness and execution of its emergency plan.
"Having a solid plan in place to respond to emergency situations, like a hurricane or tropical storm, allowed us to quickly and appropriately launch into triage mode and best allocate our resources in a thoughtful manner," Kinnison said. "Because of this foresight, Port Royal was able to protect against the worst-case scenario."
The resort will take the next six months to provide training to team members for service of the June re-opening.
The team also has put in more than 2,000 hours of community service by helping with cleanup efforts in Port Aransas, the release states.
