Sommerro has announced the appointment of André Julseth as General Manager. He will commence the role at Oslo’s first art deco luxury hotel on Saturday, July 1.

For the past three years, Julseth has been working as General Manager of The Well Spa & Hotel, on the outskirts of Oslo, playing a key role in the launch of the on-site hotel in 2021. However, the 35-year-old is well acquainted with Sommerro’s parent company (Strawberry) after spending more than four years working at sister hotel THE THEIF, also in the Norwegian capital.

After achieving a Bachelor of Business Administration and Major in Hospitality Management from International College of Management in Sydney, Australia, Julseth’s flourishing ten-year career began with a role on the reception team at Oslo Plaza. It was at THE THEIF that he realized his ambitions to work within the luxury hotel industry and from 2015 to 2020, he worked in a variety of roles at the hotel, including In-House Sales, Front Desk & Conference Manager and Hotel Manager. His fast ascent to the top is testament to his dedication to the role and passion for hospitality, as well as experience gained from both international and national hotel chains, InterContinental Hotel Adelaide Australia and Radisson Blu in Norway to name just two.

Part of Nordic Hotels & Resorts, Sommerro opened in September 2022. Occupying the original building of the former headquarters of Oslo Lysverker, the city’s original electrical company, and a newly designed extension, the hotel features 231 rooms and luxury suites, four restaurants, three bars, a sprawling wellness space that brings back the city’s public baths, a series of historical meeting and event rooms, and a rooftop terrace. April 2023 saw the second stage of the hotel’s launch with the opening of Villa Inkognito, Oslo’s first-ever urban villa. This private 11-suite retreat is located next door to Sommerro and is available to book in its entirety or on an individual room basis.

Julseth plans to further build on and maintain the success of the hotel’s first year, developing the existing offerings and managing the 300-strong team. He replaces Jarle Moen, Sommerro’s opening General Manager.
