ATLANTA (May 1, 2023) – Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury & lifestyle portfolio, announced today it will open a new boutique hotel in New York City, marking the brand’s second in the market. Set to open in fall 2023, Kimpton Hotel Theta will serve as an oasis for business and leisure guests seeking respite in the heart of the city’s Theater District.

Designed to serve as a gateway to quintessential New York, Kimpton Hotel Theta will offer a sense of retreat in every environment. An adaptive re-reuse of an existing mixed-use hotel, the new Kimpton Hotel Theta was originally imagined by Morris Lapidus, the pioneer of Miami Modern Architecture. The reimagined hotel will span 15 floors and feature 364 guest rooms, inclusive of five suites, including a 1,100-square-foot penthouse. Guestrooms will be generously sized, particularly for New York City standards. As is true with all Kimptons, the hotel will feature beloved perks such as morning coffee and tea, evening social hour, “Forgot It? We’ve Got it!” amenity program, 24-hour fitness center, in-room yoga mats, custom-designed PUBLIC bikes ready to take out for a spin, and a no-fee pet policy.

Aptly inspired by the Theta brainwaves that are most present in moments of self-reflection, meditation and internal focus – the Theta name is also derived from the eighth letter of the Greek alphabet, a perfect tie to the hotel’s 8th Avenue location. The design-forward hotel will also offer a 3,200-square-foot rooftop restaurant by TableOne Hospitality, a grab-and-go market and coffee service in the lobby and approximately 1,100-square feet of meeting space. The rooftop will be the crown jewel of Kimpton Hotel Theta, a culinary escape with a speakeasy edge aptly inspired by the Cicchetti bars of the Italian Riviera. Small plates, bright apertivos and inspired spritzes will satisfy hotel guests and locals looking for a breath of fresh air over dinner and drinks.

Mike DeFrino, Managing Director, Luxury & Lifestyle Americas at IHG Hotels & Resorts says: “We’re looking forward to bringing another Kimpton to the New York City market, and Kimpton Hotel Theta will bring an unexpected, refreshing experience to the Midtown West neighborhood. The hotel will serve as a boutique oasis designed to delight all guests who are looking to stay in the middle of it all but also have space to recharge and reset.”

Located on 48th Street and 8th Avenue at the nexus of the Theater District and Midtown West, a block off from Times Square, Kimpton Hotel Theta will be the ideal launch point for exploration, with easy access to the city’s transportation hubs. Guests can find themselves anywhere in Manhattan within twenty minutes, or they can step outside and stroll to iconic attractions, from Broadway to MoMA.  Attracting both first-time visitors discovering city highlights and nearly-natives returning to their second home, the unique location represents the heart of the city in every sense.

Operated by Highgate, a leading hotel management, investment and development company, Kimpton Hotel Theta will join Kimpton Hotel Eventi as the brand’s second hotel in New York City. A trusted operator in the hospitality industry, Highgate’s diverse portfolio spans 500 properties and 87,000 rooms across North America, the Caribbean, Latin America, and Europe. Kimpton Hotel Theta is the first with IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Arash Azarbarzin, Chief Executive Officer of Highgate says: “We’re excited to partner with Kimpton to launch this unique property in the heart of New York City’s iconic Theater District. As the newest addition to Highgate’s growing lifestyle and luxury portfolio, Hotel Theta offers an unrivaled experience for travelers and locals with its reimagined design, dynamic programming and soaring rooftop lounge.”

There are over 70 Kimptons open worldwide and more than 25 Kimpton hotels scheduled to open in the next three to five years across 20 new global destinations, including Riviera Maya, Roatan, Bali and Shanghai.
