Aug. 31–A new hotel is being proposed on Lebanon's west side.

Ascent Hospitality Management Co., Inc., of Buford, Georgia, is asking the city's board of zoning appeals to approve plans and seven variances for a Hampton Inn by Hilton, which would be located in the 400 block of North Mount Zion Road.

The four-story hotel will have 85 guest rooms, Kristi Spencer, administrative assistant for the city's Department of Planning and Zoning, said Tuesday. No further information was available because no development plan has yet been filed, she said.

The BZA is scheduled to hear the request at its 7 p.m. Sept. 6, meeting in the Lebanon Municipal Building, 401 S. Meridian St.

Ascent Hospitality operates the Hampton Inn at 6005 S. Main St., Whitestown; a Hampton Inn in Hammond; a Holiday Inn Express in Carmel; LaQuinta Inns in Plainfield and Indianapolis; and 25 other hotels, most of them in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

The hotel is proposed on nearly 2 acres at an "estimated address" of 401 N. Mount Zion Road. That would place it across from a Holiday Inn Express at 335 N. Mount Zion Road and southeast of an office mall at 360 N. Mount Zion Road.

The hotel's developers are asking for seven variances from city building codes, since it is located in an area zoned for industrial use. Those waivers include one for the five-acre minimum lot size in an industrial area, the building's height, the distance of driveways from adjoining property lines, and the number of parking spaces.
