ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (August 3, 2017) – Hotel Chaco, a contemporary luxury hotel inspired by the architecture and ancient civilization of Chaco Canyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has opened in the heart of Old Town Albuquerque. The 118-room property – the first from-the-ground-up design/build project from Heritage Hotels & Resorts – is located adjacent to sister property Hotel Albuquerque at Old Town.
Key features such as precise stone masonry, vigas and latillas for rooftop structures, and aligning the building to the sun’s movement are incorporated into the architecture of Hotel Chaco. The hotel was designed by the award-winning global architectural firm, Gensler. Hotel Chaco is Gensler’s first design project in New Mexico, fusing ultra-modern design with sustainable building strategies. The Gensler team traveled to Chaco Canyon to draw inspiration from the ancient architecture.
The hotel comprises five levels and 25 different guestroom configurations. Many extend outdoors onto gracious terraces showcasing majestic views towards the Sandia Mountains and downtown skyline, while others overlook the beautiful gardens and pool terrace below. A rooftop restaurant and bar, called Level 5 in honor of Chaco Canyon’s legendary Pueblo Bonito, which also had five stories, features a local ingredients – and Native-inspired menu conceived by legendary chef Mark Miller and Hotel Albuquerque Executive Chef Gilbert Aragon. Additional dining options include the lobby level Equinox Café and Bar, as well as room service. Plans for a 6,000 square foot spa are in progress. Hotel Chaco offers a variety of meeting and event spaces along with access to an additional 62,000 square feet of meeting space at the adjacent Hotel Albuquerque.
Another key aspect of the guest experience at Hotel Chaco is the property’s art program. Together with interior designer Kris Lajeskie, the hotel commissioned an elite cadre of contemporary Native American artists to create works for both public spaces and guestrooms.

In conjunction with Heritage Inspirations, LLC, Hotel Chaco offers its guests luxurious guided day and overnight camping trips to its namesake Chaco Canyon National Monument. The trips offer visitors an easy way to experience this rather remote UNESCO World Heritage Site, considered by many to be the “Machu Picchu” of North America.
