History of the real Hotel Washington Irving

The Real Hotel Washington Irving was one of the most emblematic, modern and luxurious hotels in Granada and, in its time, the only one with hot and cold running water in every room, as advertised in that era. It was located in a building dating back to 1802 in an area known as "Las Ventillas", featuring an abundance of taverns and inns. The hotel quickly became a benchmark for noteworthy visitors to the city, including the painter Mariano Fortuny in the late 19th century, although its golden age was in the 1960s and 70s with the boom of tourists interested in discovering the charms of the Alhambra.
