Jan. 12–BOGOTA — The number of foreign tourists visiting Colombia increased by 10.4 per cent to 4.4 million in 2018, according to official figures quoted by local media Friday.

Most of the tourists came from the United States (574,559), Argentina (186,482), Brazil (181,033), Mexico (167,209) and Ecuador (149,027).

The number of foreign tourists visiting Colombia has gone up by an average 8.4 per cent since 2011, broadcaster RCN said.

Colombia was formerly shunned as a dangerous destination, but the government's peace process with the rebel group FARC and the peace deal signed in 2016 have improved its reputatation.

The growth of tourism is also attributed to investment in road and transport infrastructure along with new offers in areas such as ecological and adventure tourism and alpine cycling.
