Charleston, SC – November 1, 2023 – Leading hospitality management company Charlestowne Hotels is pleased to announce the opening of the “totally retro, pleasantly offbeat” Little Mod Hotel in Charlottesville, VA. Adjacent to the University of Virginia (UVA) grounds, a revitalized 1960s building is now home to the 20-room hotel that embraces nostalgia through groovy furnishings, whimsical F&B offerings, and an unapologetically hip vibe.

One of Charlestowne’s latest development projects, the management company’s in-house creative team worked closely with developers and designers to conceptualize a hotel brand and eatery that’s unlike anything else currently available in the market. Designed for the modern traveler with a penchant for quirky experiences, Little Mod’s 15 guest rooms feature record players, retro bath tile, and mid-century furniture. For guests looking to settle in and stay awhile, five apartment-style suites offer enhanced kitchens, ample workspace, a cozy sitting area, and luxurious en-suite bathroom for rest and relaxation.

Located in the heart of UVA’s most lively district, Little Mod is all about reliving the glory days—whether that’s for alumni who want to be transported back to their college years, visiting parents keen to take a trip down memory lane, or adventurous young guests who embrace the offbeat and eccentric. Just steps away from “The Corner,” a lively local cornerstone of the UVA grounds, guests of Little Mod feel like they’re part of the vibrant culture of Charlottesville.

“We love the opportunity that comes with building a hotel brand,” says Kyle Hughey, CEO of Charlestowne Hotels. “Little Mod is a prime example of our in-house creative team developing an unexpected offering in a city characterized by tradition.”

The hotel’s airstream-style food truck, The Mod Pod, serves up all-day breakfast, tasty tacos, and waffle cones stuffed with pork belly and maple citrus glaze. All of these delicious dishes are whipped up by The Mod Pod’s chef Tyler Andrews, who has worked in prestigious kitchens and designed this experience to serve food with sophistication at affordable prices. The Mod Pod joins Charlestowne’s expanding portfolio of 35+ F&B outlets, including its first stand-alone dining concept, Gingerline, which opened last year in Charleston, SC.

“Little Mod is a small but mighty hotel in Charlottesville, and we wanted our culinary experience to reflect that,” says Anthony Langan, Vice President of Food & Beverage at Charlestowne Hotels. “The Mod Pod brings together locals and guests through its accessible, outdoor offerings, while the casual spin we place on more elevated dishes injects a bit of playfulness back into dining.”

As Charlestowne’s third Virginia-based property, Little Mod Hotel joins Oakhurst Inn and The Bristol Hotel in the management company’s growing portfolio. Other recent additions include Hotel Verdant in Racine, Wisconsin, and The H Hotel in Midland, Michigan.
