BIRMINGHAM, MI – April 30, 2021 – Daxton Hotel opens its doors in Birmingham, MI, located just 30 minutes north of Detroit.  The hotel serves as a magnet for cultured locals and modern travelers alike  within the vibrant city of Birmingham which has long been tied to luxury with its high-end shopping and dynamic art scene. Daxton is the latest hotel to launch in the Aparium Hotel Group portfolio and the group’s first collaboration with owner, Mark Mitchell, a local entrepreneur and lifelong metro Detroit area resident.  The 151-room Daxton Hotel brings a modern vision of Birmingham luxury incorporating some of the finest art, wellness, dining and retail that hospitality can offer.

“We are excited to show travelers the very best of Michigan and beyond in a market worthy of a world-class hotel,” said Mitchell. “Daxton will set a hospitality standard far beyond the Midwest and it is an absolute privilege to deliver a project that will be an important aspect of Birmingham’s fabric for generations to come.”

A striking new building on the city’s iconic Old Woodward Ave, Daxton Hotel features an awe-inspiring design with over 400 pieces of cutting-edge art curated by world-renowned Saatchi Art. The incredible portfolio of mixed-media brings whimsical and energetic details throughout. Vibrant colors flood spaces throughout the hotel featuring a chartreuse lobby, deep-burgundy guest rooms and lavender parlors, an ideal composition juxtaposed with the art collection, avant-garde architectural lighting and furniture in bold shapes. Daxton brings a blend of provocative yet sophisticated style, offering artistic freedom of expression throughout the use of light rays, shadows and reflections creating an ethereal mood. Guest rooms include at least two custom pieces of artwork from 160 artists representing nearly 40 countries. The artwork crosses multiple mediums including painting, photography, collage, drawing and sculpture of some of the best international, national and regional artists. Acclaimed local muralist, Ouizi (Louise Jones), work is on display in the form of a mesmerizing design scrim headboard backdrop for the guest rooms. Daxton also aims to keep an ongoing, collaborative partnership with Cranbrook Academy of Art and Cranbrook Art Museum.

Renowned chef Garrison Price serves as Executive Chef of the hotel’s flagship restaurant Madam. Madam features enlightened American fare, with an ever evolving menu focusing on seasonality and the freshness emblematic of California cuisine. An eye for the appreciation of the elegance and simplicity of impeccable ingredients is apparent in Chef Price’s dishes. The Potato Gnocchi with foraged mushrooms, melted leeks, parmigiano reggiano and  tarragon, as well as  Flat Iron Steak with piquillo pepper confit, romesco sauce, spring onion and marcona almonds showcase the individual components while also evoking a sense of playfulness and approachability. The restaurant seats up to 80 guests beneath a soaring ceiling in a room illuminated by an expansive custom-made chandelier and oversized windows. Accents include the bar and lounge with its stunning geodesic dome, 10’ x 12’ paintings series in a striking, feminine motif, oversized custom banquettes, and a three-toned wood floor in the airy, vibrant space. Chef Garrison has over 20 years of culinary experience, having served as Executive Chef for three years at Manhattan’s iconic IL Buco Alimentari e Vineria and served as Culinary Director for Jean-Georges Vongerichten as well as Executive Chef for José Andrés.

Daxton Hotel’s vision stems from owner Mark Mitchell,  who has pledged to create a hotel product in his local community that sets a new cultural standard for hospitality. Mitchell wants to integrate his family story into the build with the property being named after his son Daxton, with other subtle nods throughout.

On the wellness front, Daxton Hotel has their very own personal trainer on staff in conjunction with Michigan’s own Lean Body Studio. A variety of private training sessions and interactive events such as “Brunch and Burn” bring together guests who share the same love of fitness. The property also has their own running club through Gazelle Sports, a specialty running boutique with a deep community connection.

“Daxton will be a global icon,” said Aaron Black, the hotel’s General Manager. “From the highly curated Saatchi artwork, renowned culinary leadership of Chef Garrison, innovative programming and creative collaborations, Daxton is the unparalleled offering Birmingham has been waiting for.”

Each guest room is stylishly outfitted with a WANT Les Essentiels customized tote, exclusively made for the hotel and inspired by an internationally sold out design.
