Hotel Online Special Report Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo Awarded Interior Design Contract for the Kangwon Casino Resort in Kohan, South Korea HONOLULU— June 2000 – The internationally renowned architecture, planning, and design firm of Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo (WAT&G) has been awarded the interior design contract for the Kangwon Casino Resort in Kohan, South Korea. Previously, WAT&G won a design competition for the planning and architectural design of this facility.

The development team includes the owner, Kangwon Land, Inc.; the architect of record, Yaerhim Architects Planners & Consultants; and the Korean interior design firm of Ridge Co., Ltd. Kangwon Land, Inc. will be the operator. The resort is scheduled to have a grand opening in December 2002.

The scope of the project includes 475 guestrooms (with two deluxe presidential suites); 6 restaurants and bars; meeting and conference facilities; a freestanding spa; and a 125,000-square-foot casino including restaurants, entertainment venues, and VIP areas. The overall project includes a retail village, a lake, and sites for future hotels and condominiums.

The team for this project is being lead by senior vice-president George Berean and worldwide director of interiors David Weisberg, along with senior associate Fred Mikawa as project manager.
