Jumers Background Jumers Hotels & Casino began in 1970 with a hotel in Peoria, Illinois where their Corporate Headquarters are located. The hotel chain has five properties and two hotels under management contract in South Dakota. A floating casino was added in 1992, docked at the Boatworks in Rock Island, Illinois. Jumer’s European Themed Hotels with their Old World charm is nationally known and well patronized. Jumers has established its reputation as a premier hotel provider.

The History of Jumer’s

Jumer Hotels & Casinos Inc. has grown from its beginnings as a restaurant originally on the site of the current Peoria Lodge. In 1960, D. James Jumer purchased Kramer’s, an established family dining spot for over 25 years prior to that. A few years later, he redesigned the restaurant into a German motif and furnished it with fine antiques and art objects now familiar to the public as a Jumer hallmark.

In 1970, the hotel was added to the site and the complex became the first Jumer’s Castle Lodge. In 1973, a second Castle Lodge, complete with a moat at the entry to the property, was built in Bettendorf, Iowa–high on a bluff overlooking the Quad Cities. The historic Urbana Lincoln Hotel was purchased in 1977 and converted into the third Jumer’s Castle Lodge. The complete renovation was done in a way to retain the historical integrity of the building which is designated as a Historical Landmark.

In 1982, the Galesburg Sheraton Motor Inn was acquired and carefully converted to the first Jumer’s Continental Inn. The decor departs from the Bavarian motif, expanding to reflect the tradition of several European countries while still including the extensive use of antiques, wood, and greenery associated with the Jumer Hotels.

In June of 1988, the 180 room Jumer’s Chateau opened in Bloomington, Illinois. This hotel was designed in the style of a French country chateau, and was quickly accepted as the premier hotel and conference center of the Bloomington – Normal area.

In March of 1992, the Boatworks opened in Rock Island, Illinois. This four-vessel fleet consists of the two vintage towboats; “T.G. Gerow” serves as the office and sales area; the “Effie Afton”, was renovated as a restaurant and lounge; and the “Ockerson”, formerly a Corps of Engineers dredge, was redesigned as ticketing offices, reception area and V.I.P. Lounge. Completing the Boatworks is the “Casino Rock Island”, a 200-foot, 750 passenger paddlewheel excursion boat, with the added excitement of riverboat casino gaming. The “Casino Rock Island” is widely regarded as the most beautiful casino boat on the Rivers, and attracts a large and loyal following.

Jumer Hotels and Casinos, Inc. continues investigating outstanding sites, both hotels and restaurants, and for its riverboat casinos, bringing the Jumer experience to an ever enlarging group of guests throughout the Midwest and beyond.

Upon entering a Jumer Hotel guests will find themselves immediately surrounded by European Elegance without even leaving the U.S.! Mr. Jumer has shared his private collection by displaying many antiques and paintings throughout each one of the hotels.
