RENO, Nevada (July 25, 2016) – Whitney Peak Hotel has promoted Eric Olson to general manager. In this new role, he will oversee daily hotel operations such as customer service, staff training, property reviews and finance and budgeting. Niki Gross will remain in her role as managing director and will work with Olson to execute the hotel’s broader strategies.

Olson joined the Whitney Peak Hotel team two years ago based on a handwritten letter he sent to the hotel’s management company, despite the fact that no jobs were currently listed. The risk paid off and Olson was offered the role of accounting director. His broad range of hospitality experience and natural leadership qualities made him a valuable asset to the hotel, and Olson quickly moved into the role of assistant general manager.

“Eric has played a key role in the hotel’s success over the past few years, and he has a proven track record of accomplishments,” Gross said. “He has the skills and experience to be a successful hotel operator, as well as a personality and management style that make him a natural fit for this leadership role. Eric’s oversight of hotel operations has allowed me to concentrate on projects that will have a greater impact on the hotel, and I can think of no other person who is more capable of ensuring that Whitney Peak continues to provide a superior guest experience.”

Before joining Whitney Peak Hotel, Olson worked for nine years with Arrow Creek Country Club. He began as a busser and worked his way up in positions that included wait staff, assistant food and beverage director, food and beverage director and controller. This experience allowed Olson to acquire insight into human resources management, budgeting, scheduling, customer service and basic information technology functions and troubleshooting. He will continue to leverage these skills in his role as general manager for Whitney Peak Hotel.

Olson is a native of Reno. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Nevada in Reno.
