Sept. 29–Sacramento-area motel and hotel operators continued to see strong numbers through the first half of 2016, according to the latest report from CBRE Hotels in San Francisco.

Through six months this year, the average daily room rate for reporting area hotels was $118.54, up 7 percent from $110.79 in the first six months of 2015.

Average revenue per available room in this year's first half was $88.83, up nearly 6 percent from $84.04 in the year-ago period.

The average occupancy rate dipped just slightly year-over-year — 74.9 percent in 2016 versus 75.8 percent in 2015 — but the current rate is considered solid by industry standards.

Hotel industry analysts say 70 percent occupancy is considered the point at which hotels can comfortably raise rates.
