Oct. 21–The opening of the 130-room hotel under construction on Atascadero’s north end will be delayed by several months.

Construction of the four-story Marriott SpringHill Suites hotel began last spring near the Home Depot shopping center on San Ramon Road and El Camino Real. It was slated to be completed by the end of the year.

On Friday, a spokeswoman for the hotel’s Costa Mesa-based developer Westar Associates said it’s now anticipated to be complete in spring 2015. She didn’t have any additional details on the delay. But according to Atascadero’s planning department, progress on the 80,000-square-foot hotel hit a snag in July when crews tried to move heating and air conditioning equipment to the fourth floor, but the ceiling wasn’t high enough to accommodate the change. The project then had to undergo a partial redesign to make room for the equipment, planners said.

The hotel is on 6 acres and will have a wine country-inspired design with exhibit space, a pool, a Jacuzzi and a bar. The project also includes two additional building pads totaling 18,000 square feet suitable for restaurants, gas stations or retail.

Details on possible tenants for those spots weren’t disclosed.
