March 07–COLONIE — A hotel and office building proposed for a site next to Albany International Airport received preliminary approval from the Colonie planning board during its meeting Tuesday night.

Town spokeswoman Sara Wiest said the concept approval that British American Development received will allow the developer to proceed with a more detailed design.

The 106-room Tru by Hilton would be built near an existing Hilton Garden Inn off Albany Shaker Road next to the airport. The project also includes a three-story office building. Officials at British American couldn't be reached for comment.

The Tru by Hilton is the latest hotel proposed for the busy Wolf Road corridor leading to the airport. First Columbia is developing a 205-room building at Wolf and Albany Shaker roads that will be shared by two Marriott brands, a 120-room Courtyard by Marriott and an 85-unit Residence Inn. Groundbreaking is set for spring.

Meanwhile, developer Tom Burke is planning a four-story, 110-room Hyatt House extended-stay hotel at 144 Wolf Road in Colonie at the site of the former Lazare auto dealership.
