EI Updates Certified Hospitality Educator Workshop
Orlando, Florida, February 2012—The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) has updated the study materials for its Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) professional designation. The certification is the mark of excellence for post-secondary educators teaching in hospitality management programs. More than 2,700 educators worldwide have earned the CHE designation since its introduction in 1992. Through the preparatory CHE workshop, those new to higher education will gain confidence in using traditional and up-to-date teaching techniques to improve student learning. Those who are seasoned instructors will gain new approaches and strategies to teaching that can increase student learning and performance, and can make the educational experience a more positive endeavor for both the instructor and the students. The workshop manual used during the 2.5 day CHE workshop has been revised with new material essential for today’s educators, including:
The pre-workshop manual that candidates receive has been better organized to clarify workshop expectations. It has been revised to include expanded support media segments that address low-tech traditional media, current technology-based media options, and web-based platforms. It also includes a new discussion of course management systems. The revision clarified and expanded the section on the use and rules for effective use of support media, particularly teaching with PowerPoint.
