EventGrid's co-founder to speak about iBeacon and new technologies that are turning the physical world into the new digital channel for Hospitality

New York City, NY - June 13, 2014 - Niraj Shah, software developer and co-founder of EventGrid, will be a featured Tech Talk presenter at the 2014 Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC), a service of Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®), is the world's largest hospitality technology conference.

The event, to be held June 23-26 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California, is expected to draw more than 5000 attendees this year, including leading hospitality executives and suppliers representing hotels, resorts and technology.

Shah, a veteran industry software engineer and successful entrepreneur, will discuss the latest innovations, trends and developments in hospitality and event technology including Apple's iBeacon technology that are shaping and disrupting the way we do business.

Whether you hear the term iBeacon, Geofences or Bluetooth LE, the standard that will underpin a new generation of devices is turning the physical world into the new digital channel. That technology allows mobile apps to recognize when an iPhone is near a small wireless sensor called a beacon. The beacon can transmit data to an iPhone - and visa versa - using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). iBeacon is a feature in iOS 7, thus Apple's new iPhones will have iBeacon.

"For the first time we see a real merging of the physical and digital: there is no more offline, and we'll start looking up from our screens again to see what's around us," states Shah. "Say you're walking by a coffee shop, hotel or a store that has a beacon. When you enter that beacon's zone, the beacon will transmit special promotions, event tickets, coupons, recommendations, and more to your mobile device via the app. Beacons will also accept payments, so you can pay without having to bump or tap your phone against anything. This is going to change the hospitality industry and event space forever and it has been very exciting for us to include this technology in our EventGrid ticketing and event management platform and event mobile app."

Niraj will be presenting at TechTalks right on the exhibit hall floor at the HFTP Booth #455 on Tuesday June 24 at 11:00 PST. Only 15 minutes long, these free-flowing conversations will cover the most innovative ideas happening in the industry. The presentation will be open to all attendees at no additional charge.
