April 2, 2014 8:17am
Located at the mouth of the Yangtze River and the East China Sea, Chongming Island is the world’s largest alluvial river island. Sparsely developed and dotted with organic farms, rural villages, national parks and wetlands, it is a coveted retreat destination for Shanghai urban dwellers seeking fresh air, nature adventures and excellent dining that uses local ingredients. The island is conveniently linked to the mainland by a tunnel and bridge, and is just a 90-minute drive from downtown Shanghai.
“Hyatt has already established a strong brand presence with four hotels in Shanghai, and we are excited to further expand our brand presence in this important market with the introduction of the Hyatt Regency brand. Hyatt Regency Chongming demonstrates our commitment to thoughtful and harmonious growth in China by bringing convenience and hospitality to a previously untapped nature-based lifestyle destination,” said Christopher Koehler, Vice President of Operations, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, China.
“It is a privilege to unveil the first international upscale hotel on the ecologically rich island of Chongming. As the only resort destination to offer pristine landscapes and nature-based experiences so close to the Shanghai metropolis, we look forward to providing an environment that fosters meaningful relationships and connections. We are committed to exceeding the expectations of our business and leisure guests with great facilities, exciting dining options and innovative events venues,” said Douglas Schwab, general manager of Hyatt Regency Chongming.
Hyatt Regency Chongming is set in a beautiful natural environment beside the Dongtan Wetlands Park and a migratory bird reserve. The resort’s five buildings are connected by a covered Chinese-style walkway, and extensive gardens are landscaped with flowers, streams and arched bridges.
Ideal for couples, families or conference groups, the contemporary resort features spacious and comfortable guestrooms, five restaurants and tea lounges, multi-functional events venues including ‘The Campus’ meetings concept, and an extensive variety of recreational facilities for all ages.
Hyatt Regency Chongming features 235 contemporary styled guestrooms, including 21 suites, with complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access and mini bar. Guestrooms are equipped with the latest technology such as 42-inch flatscreen TVs and MP3 player docking stations, and feature private balconies or courtyards looking out to ocean or garden views.
The Regency Club is housed in an exclusive building and Regency Club guests enjoy access to the Regency Club Lounge offering complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments and evening cocktails, plus use of the boardroom and outdoor terrace.
Hyatt Regency Chongming is also the first Hyatt hotel in China to introduce a pet-friendly program, with 25 dedicated dog-friendly rooms complete with enclosed outdoor courtyards and special canine comforts.
Hyatt Regency Chongming’s five restaurants and lounges showcase fine local and global cuisines, with a focus on fresh seasonal ingredients from Chongming’s renowned organic farms and river estuaries.
Chinese restaurant, Pin Yue, specializes in Chongming and Shanghai cuisines in an impressive modern-Chinese restaurant with six large private dining suites. The Tea House serves fine teas, Chinese snacks and western-style High Tea in a stylishly designed tearoom, outdoor lake pavilion and two opulent private rooms.
Market Café offers a Chinese buffet complemented by international flavors. With two interactive show kitchens, guests can select their favorite dishes straight from the pan, grill or wok, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Italian restaurant, Bistro, serves Mediterranean comfort food and house-baked pizzas from the wood-fired oven. Guests can also relax, meet and socialize in the comfortable Lobby Lounge, which serves coffee, tea, wine and appetizers throughout the day and evening.
Hyatt Regency Chongming’s unique nature resort ambience and innovative facilities make it an exciting new destination for meetings, conferences and weddings within easy access of Shanghai.
Hyatt Regency Chongming is the first to introduce an innovative new meetings and events concept by Hyatt – The Campus – to Greater China. Styled to evoke the nostalgia of university life, The Campus is a 'learning and social center' with contemporary and dynamic settings specially designed to foster creative thinking and the exchange of ideas. Spanning more than 15,000 square feet (1,440 sq m) on the ground floor, The Campus comprises a Lecture Hall, three Classrooms, a versatile social and dining space called the Cafeteria, and six Song & Games Rooms.
The hotel also features a 6,700-square-foot (630 sq m) Regency Ballroom opening out to a walled garden, five classically styled salons and boardrooms, plus a Regency Lawn catering to larger alfresco events and romantic garden weddings.
Club Oasis at Hyatt Regency Chongming includes a 25-meter indoor swimming pool, fitness center with Technogym equipment and indoor/outdoor children’s play areas. A large fleet of mountain bikes, tandems and kids’ bikes are available for guests wishing to explore the numerous attractions around Chongming Island, including natural wetlands, temples and rural villages.
