GIC acquired Grand Wailea in March as a long-term investment and it is already devoting resources in capital improvement projects that will enhance the resort's unique offerings. Hilton Worldwide continues to remain the management company of Grand Wailea through its luxury brand, Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts.
Jerry Gibson, area vice president for Hilton Worldwide said, "Tom is the clear choice to lead Grand Wailea. He is an engaging executive with great leadership skills, knowledge of operations, financial acumen and an advocate of the Hawaiian culture. He has done an exemplary job leading his previous resorts, we are confident he will achieve even greater success at Grand Wailea."
The feeling is mutual as Donovan commented, "Grand Wailea is an impressive, iconic resort. I am excited to join its inspiring team, build on its strong brand and empower its growth."
Donovan brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in the hospitality industry recently serving as the vice president and general manager of the The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua where he led the 463-room hotel's $167 million renovation. Prior to The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, he served as general manager for The Ritz-Carlton Resort, Bachelor Gulch in Edwards, CO, and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Phoenix, AZ.
Donovan is an active member of the local community serving in several boards within Hawaii. He graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science degree.
