New Fairfield Inn & Suites Taps Onity for
Locks, Energy-Management System
Construction and management executives praise systems affordability and effectiveness, as well as support from Onity staff

Atlanta Dec. 8, 2003 The newly opened Fairfield Inn & Suites in Yakima, Wash., is facing a business future that wont include management worrying about rising energy costs or guests worrying about security. Thats because when the property opened its doors for business on November 24, its rooms were equipped with the SensorStat® DDC-IF energy-management system and the HT24 locking system, both from Onity.

Atlanta-based Onity (formerly TESA Entry Systems, Inc.) is the leading global provider of electronic locking and energy-management solutions for the hospitality industry.

Were pleased to be an integral part of this new Fairfield Inn & Suites, and were pleased to have once again worked with Vandervert Construction on the project, said Pascal Metivier, Onitys Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing. They know, just as an increasing number of hotel developers and owners have discovered, that installing Onity products is a big step toward ensuring a hotels success whether a new hotel or one being upgraded or renovated.

Vandervert Construction, a leading Pacific Northwest construction firm based in Spokane, Wash., was the hotels builder. Vanderverts Tom Perko, project manager, said his past project experience with Onity was the basis for his choosing Onity for the 80-room Fairfield Inn & Suites locking and energy-management systems.

Ive worked with Onity locking systems in other hotels weve built, and theyve performed extremely well, Perko said. My experience is that Onity locking systems provide the kind of top security and ease of use guests want and expectand thats a huge plus in terms of guest satisfaction.

Perko added that ease of installation and Onitys flexibility were also big plusses during construction. The lock installations took only a day, which was a big help in terms of meeting construction deadlines, Perko said. In addition, Onitys HT24 locking system was less expensive than the leading competitors locking systems, and Onitys customer service in terms of working with us was, as always, excellent. Circumstances forced us to reschedule installation of the locking system several times, and Onity was very flexible and easy to work with.

Perko said Vandervert Construction also installed the SensorStat® DDC-IF energy-management system, a prime reason being the quick return on investment as well as Onitys reputation for providing energy- and cost-saving energy-management systems that enhance guest satisfaction while bringing those savings to the bottom line.

We determined that the payback, based on reduced energy costs, was less than two years, Perko said.

Susan Wood is Director of Openings and Support for Monroe, La.-based InterMountain Management LLC, which was retained by owner G&G Hospitality, Ellensburg, Wash., to manage the new Fairfield Inn & Suites/Yakima. Wood, who served as project director representing InterMountain for the new Fairfield, had special praise for the Onity HT24 locking systemand for the support Onity provided in terms of training following installation of both systems.

Weve used other locking systems but have found they dont provide the same reliability and support systems, Wood said. Onitys locking systems provide ease of installation and the kind of user-friendliness that helps enhance guest satisfaction. As for support, Ive been impressed with the care Onity takes in training hotel staff in how to operate and maintain both the locking and the energy-management systems. InterMountain owns several hotels in addition to managing others for owners, and we may very well be installing Onity locks and energy-management systems in our owned properties.

Theres never been more critical reasons for hotel operators to look at installing Onity locking and energy-management systems in new projects or retrofitting older hotels, Metivier said. Todays sophisticated guests want to feel safe and secure away from home, and todays sophisticated hotel developers, owners and managers want to feel secure in knowing theyre doing all they can to save on the ever-increasing cost of energy. We take pride in knowing that the executives of the new Fairfield Inn & Suites/Yakima chose Onity to help them accomplish both these objectivesand in a way that is affordable and enhances guest satisfaction.
