Decatur Hotels LLC Jazzes Up Security, Energy Program,
At Its New Orleans Hotels With  One-Stop-Shop Solutions
From Onity
Decatur President Patrick Quinn to discuss system-wide  election of Onity for electronic locks, e-safes, CCTV and EMS at HITEC

ATLANTA JUNE 20, 2003 Todays challenging economy has many hoteliers singing the blues but New Orleans-based Decatur Hotels LLC is not one of them. For the last seven years, the owner and operator of 17 distinctive properties in the French Quarter, the Central Business District and on St. Charles Avenue, has placed its complete trust in Onity (formerly TESA Entry Systems, Inc.) for technology solutions that ensure guest safety and asset security, save energy, combat humidity and help prevent black mold spore growth.

Seven years ago, Onity was the only electronic lock company that could guarantee us a product that could weather the elements for our exterior corridor hotels, said Patrick Quinn, Decatur Hotels President. We were immediately impressed with Onitys technology, the companys professional sales people and the reliable service afforded to our hotels. As we added additional hotels to our system and as contracts ran out with previous technology suppliers, we began adding additional systems from Onity at various hotels -- such as in-room safes and Closed Circuit Television Cameras. Today, we are now purchasing our energy management, humidity control and black mold prevention solutions through Onity as a one-stop-shop supplier. Why shop anywhere else?

Decatur properties include the: Historic French Market Inn, Lafayette Hotel, Hotel Chateau Dupre, Pelham Hotel, Omni Royal Crescent, Queen and Crescent

In May of 2002, Decatur opened its largest hotel, the 515 room Astor Crowne Plaza. A new construction, the Astor stands at the gateway to the French Quarter, where Bourbon Street meets Canal Street. The Astor and Alexis are adjoining properties that are a major part of the ongoing revitalization of Canal Street.
Hotel, Parc St. Charles, St. James Hotel, Hotel LeCirque, Alexa Hotel, Astor Crowne Plaza, Alta Vista Hotel, CottonExchange Hotel, Holiday Inn Express, Creole House and the French Quarter Guest House. Decatur Hotels also opened its first property outside of New Orleans, the Alta Vista Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.

Decatur Hotels specialty of turning blighted and abandoned historic buildings into luxury boutique hotels has made them a part of the renaissance of downtown New Orleans, said Pascal Metivier, Onity VP, Global Sales and Marketing. We are pleased to partner with a company such as Decatur that has created a variety of unique hotels in the heart of historic New Orleans with the most advanced technology solutions available in the industry.

Quinn will be joining the Onity team in Booth No. 744 at the Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC), Wednesday June 25th at 3:00 pm, to discuss with hoteliers and the media the benefits that Onitys solutions have afforded his hotels. One of the messages that Onity will be sharing with hoteliers at HITEC 2003 is that Onity is no longer just an electronic lock manufacturer.

Todays Onity is turning on clients, such as Decatur, to unparalleled convenience through time and cost savings, and to a true one-stop shop that delivers next-generation service standards and a host of innovative solutions, Metivier said. We are excited to have the opportunity to let one of our most valued customers share with the industry their first-hand experiences with Onitys solutions and the great savings and satisfaction they have realized.

Controlling costs, humidity

As energy costs rise, so does the humidity level in New Orleans. David Hohne, Onity Southeast Regional Manager, said that through a humidity control module added to Onitys SensorStat® DDC II, Decatur hotels are controlling guestroom humidity, guaranteeing that guests remain comfortable and rooms remain free of mold, mildew and odor.

Onitys proven SensorStat® EMS solutions offer a unique, patented system to maintain room temperature and humidity outside the mold-spore growth range, saving Decatur Hotels properties tens of thousands of dollars every year in asset protection while reducing related energy costs, he said.

Brian Blake, Director of Sales, Southeast, for Onitys Senercomm® Energy Management solutions, concurred.

New Orleans hotels are particularly susceptible to mold and mildew damage and related guest/employee health issues due to high humidity levels, Blake said. By adding our humidity controls to the SensorStat® DDC II system, we are eliminating the conditions in guestrooms for black mold growth on case goods, wallpaper and carpet. This in turn eliminates the odors that accompanies mold and mildew in high humidity environments.

Blake explained that the psychometric control algorithm of the SensorStat® DDC is designed to maintain a room environment that is outside the mold and mildew growth zone. While mold and mold spores cannot be entirely eliminated from indoor environments, their growth can certainly be halted through proactive, preprogrammed moisture control systems.

Through Onitys one-stop-shop solutions, we are: reducing our utility bills each month; making our guestrooms more comfortable by allowing our guests to control room temperature while the system maintains safe humidity levels; ensuring guest and employee safety by eliminating dangerous mold and mildew growth conditions; and we are showing the local community and global travelers that we are committed to the highest levels of security by installing electronic locks, in-room safes and CCTV, Quinn said.

As we continue to develop and renovate hotels, we will continue to install all of Onitys solutions, he said. Onity makes life a lot easier by enabling us to purchase all we need from one vendor. Its nice to have a foolproof vendor that we can count on. For Decatur, Onity is No. 1.
