Wyndham Boston Opens after a $40 Million Redevelopment

DALLAS - Aug. 16, 1999--Wyndham International, Inc. (NYSE:WYN) announced the opening of a flagship hotel in Bostons Batterymarch Building, a historic landmark in the heart of Bostons Financial District.

James D. Carreker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, We are excited to be expanding our presence in the Boston area and very proud that the Wyndham flag is flying over one of Bostons most beautiful and important landmark buildings. Boston is one of the nations most important business markets, and it is equally one of the jewels in Americas cultural crown.

The Wyndham Boston is the third flagship hotel to open in a major market in recent months. In May, Wyndham opened its 314-room flagship hotel in downtown Chicago and in June, Wyndham opened its 312-room flagship hotel in downtown Atlanta. The 362-room Wyndham Boston is the centerpiece of four full-service hotel additions to the Boston area this year. In April, Wyndham opened a 210-room hotel in Billerica.  Later this month, Wyndham plans to add new Wyndham hotels in Andover and Westborough, with a total of 516 rooms, bringing the total rooms in the Boston area to 2,625.

Wyndham Boston, which officially opened on Aug. 2 after a $40 million redevelopment, is located in Bostons historic Batterymarch Building. Built in 1928, the 280,000 sq. ft., 14-story building is a designated historic landmark and occupies a full city block in Bostons Financial District. The second floor of the building will continue to be occupied by the buildings current tenant, Northeastern University.

The Batterymarch Building, designed by Harold Field Kellogg, a renowned Boston architect, is significant as the first Art Deco skyscraper in Boston, and at the time of its construction in 1928 was the largest office building downtown. The buildings most distinctive feature is the innovative use of colored brick to create the illusion of height. Thirty different shades of brick were used, beginning with dark brown at the base and progressing to a light buff at the top. The building also has extensive decorative terra cotta detail painted green, red and gold.

Perfectly situated in the heart of Boston, only blocks away from Quincy Market, Fanueil Hall, the Waterfront, and Post Office Square, Wyndham Boston features 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, 66 suites, a concierge and business center, gift shop, Caliterra Bar  Grille, library, and fitness center. Several top floors will feature guest rooms with harbor views.
