Super 8 Motels Sets Record
For Number of Motels Opened in One Quarter
73 Percent Are New Construction

Parsippany, N.J., August 3, 1998 Continuing its path of record growth since its acquisition by Cendant
Corporation in 1993, Super 8 Motels, Inc. posted a new record for the chain and its seven sister hotel brands, opening 51 motels in the second quarter of 1998.

Super 8 opened a total of 88 motels since January. Of the motels opened this quarter, 73 percent are new
construction. Fifty-five percent are new construction for the year to date. Super 8 had 1,060 motels in 1993 and now has more than 1,700 in North America.

President and Chief Executive Officer Robert N. Weller says franchisee loyalty accounts for much of Super 8s growth. "Two-thirds of our owners have more than one, or multiple, Super 8 Motels."

Pat Fussell, president of Pat Fussell and Associates, Inc., a national hotel and motel developer based in San Augustine, Texas, says his ten-year experience developing Super 8 motels has been rewarding. "We have found that Super 8 is a very consistent product due to its large number of new construction motels and strict controls on conversions," said Fussell. "Also, the turnaround time for stable rate and occupancy is briefer than most motels, which makes it an excellent investment."

Super 8 Motels, Inc., a subsidiary of Cendant Corporation (NYSE: CD), was founded in America's heartland in 1974 and has more than 1,700 motels and 100,000 rooms throughout the United States and Canada. It is the fastest-growing economy lodging chain in North America. Motel locations and on-line reservations are available on the Super 8 Internet home page at http://www.Super8.com. Super 8's toll-free reservations number in North America is 1-800-800-8000.
