Parsippany, N.J., March 31, 1998 The fastest growing economy lodging
chain in North America is at it again.
Super 8 Motels, Inc.
announces the grand opening of its 100,000th room at its newest property
in Austin, Texas
today. With an average motel size of 61 rooms, thats a lot of motels.
Less than a year after opening its 1500th
motel, Super 8 continues its steady acceleration of growth with more
than 1600 motels today.
The Austin/North Super 8 motel is owned by California-based Campbell
Motel Properties, Inc. which recently
signed an agreement with Super 8 to convert 11 Travelers INNS to Super
8 motels in five states.
"Weve chosen to partner with Super 8 because of its increasing brand
awareness and long-time clean and
friendly policy. The value-added benefits, such as discount motel products,
we receive through Super 8s parent
company, Cendant Corporation, is an extra bonus," said Campbell Motel
Properties President and CEO Jack
Campbell. "Were thrilled to have our property as the site of Super
8s 100,000th room."
Super 8 has shown a consistent increase in market share achieving a
43 percent increase in five years. Super
8s market share increased one point in 1996 while all other economy
lodging brands stayed flat or decreased
and also increased a half point to eight and a half percent in the
first half of 1997 according to market research
by D.K. Shifflet & Associates.
This is in spite of 94,000 rooms added in the economy motel segment
in 1996 and 112,000 rooms added in 1997
according to Smith Travel Research.
To celebrate the 100,000th room milestone, an official grand opening
will take place on March 31 at the Austin,
Texas Super 8 motel located on 8128 North I-35. A ribbon cutting ceremony
and presentation will begin at 5
p.m. hosted by Weller and Campbell. Special guests from the Austin
Convention and Visitors Bureaus
tourism division will participate during the program.
The 124-room, AAA-approved motel is near downtown Austin, the University
of Texas and the State Capitol.
Amenities include an outdoor pool, meeting room, business services,
guest laundry, children 18 years and
under stay free and free continental breakfast is offered.
Super 8 Motels, Inc., founded in America's heartland in 1974, has more
than 1,600 motels and 100,000 rooms
throughout the United States and Canada. It is the fastest-growing
economy lodging chain in North America.
