Washington, D.C., April 15, 2013 – The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) applauds the U.S. House of Representatives following passage of the Preventing Greater Uncertainty in Labor-Management Relations Act (H.R. 1120), and issues the following statement:

“By passing the Preventing Greater Uncertainty in Labor-Management Relations Act, the House today demonstrated its commitment to ending the chaos created by the continued actions of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) after being ruled unconstitutional by a federal court,” said AH&LA Executive Vice President for Public Policy Marlene Colucci.

“Even though the court found two of the individuals on the board and many of the decisions made by the current board to be illegitimate, the NLRB chairman stated that the board will continue to act. As a result, hoteliers are unsure as to what federal workplace rules are legal and proper. The Preventing Greater Uncertainty In Labor-Management Relations Act is a common sense bill that requires the NLRB stop issuing decisions until either the U.S. Senate confirms new members constituting a quorum or the U.S. Supreme Court decides it has the authority to act,” she added.

AH&LA will continue to work with the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace to ensure a fair and equitable working environment for both employees and employers.
