Washington, December 21, 2012
– Senator Daniel Inouye was a leader in so many facets of
Congress, but we will remember him particularly for his role as a true
innovator for the travel and tourism industry. Senator Inouye
held the
first congressional hearings on the importance of tourism to the U.S.
economy,
ensuring bipartisan support that is still going strong today. He
co-sponsored the Travel Promotion Act which led to the creation of
Brand USA, a
public-private partnership designed to promote the United States as a
premier
travel destination.
Thanks to the foresight and
support of Senator Inouye, the tourism and hospitality industries are
among the
strongest in the country, employing over 7.6 million people in the
United
States. As Congress pays tribute to Senator Inouye today, the
American
Hotel & Lodging Association thanks Senator Inouye for his service
to our country,
his patriotism, and his thoughtful leadership.
