More than a Fresh Coat of Paint: the Historic Copley
Square Hotel Embraces the Future $10 Million
in Renovations and Upgrades

BOSTON, May 8, 2001 - Bostons longest continuously operating hotel, the Copley Square Hotel, announced that it has completed more than $10 million in renovations and upgrades, testimony to the dynamic reinvention of a classic hotel that is embracing technologies and levels of service not available at the time of its construction in the late nineteenth century. Included in the upgrades are the installation of a brand new heating and air conditioning system, room renovations and the addition of new guest rooms, bringing the total room count at the classic Back Bay property to 148.

Guests who visit the Copley Square Hotel will notice freshly upgraded soft
goods and further enhanced and refurbished bath areas in several guest rooms.  The upgrades are part of an ongoing renovation program that will touch every room in the hotel, as well as common areas and back of the house facilities.  Guests will also enjoy the sound of silencethe unnoticeable murmur of a state of the art heat and air conditioning (HVAC) system that permits individual room temperature control, and improves that improves indoor air quality. The new HVAC system cost the property more than $6 million to purchase and install.

Jose Estrompa, General Manager and Vice President, said the changes
directly and positively impact the guest experience at the Copley Square Hotel. He continued, The new HVAC system is among the most updated and environmentally sensitive anywhere in the city.

Controlled by means of a centralized computer, the climate neutral room
system provides clean, fresh air for guest comfort. The rooms are also highly energy efficient, allowing the hotel to save energy and costs by automatically regulating temperature levels according to presence or non-presence of guests in their rooms at any given time. Upon guest check-out, room temperatures are automatically reduced, conserving energy; when a guest checks in, the room temperature is adjusted accordingly, guaranteeing a comfortable, cozy environment in which to unpack and relax.

Tedd Saunders, Executive Vice President of the Saunders Hotel Group, which
owns and operates the Copley Square Hotel, said, The installation of this system reinforces the hotels standing as one of the most advanced, environmentally sensitive properties in the country. He concluded, It is another example of good business and environmental responsibility coming together to produce a superior guest experience.
