News for the Hospitality Executive |
June 12, 2012 - An Affiliate Member of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s (PolyU) School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) recently announced two programmes aimed at human resource capacity building for tourism in Asia and the Pacific. The SHTM has established a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) scholarship to encourage exceptional individuals who wish to pursue a research degree in hotel and tourism management. Commencing in the academic year 2012/2013, the scholarship will be offered to a qualified applicant recommended by UNWTO Member States in Asia and the Pacific. The scholarship will support one full-time student who will be on full stipend (USD64,000) for a study period of three years. In an effort to further contribute to human resource capacity building, the SHTM also offers a pioneering UNWTO Executive-in-Residence Programme to officials of UNWTO Members States in Asia and the Pacific. This innovative programme allows qualified candidates to spend six months at the School to upgrade and broaden their knowledge. Participants will have full access to classes and the SHTM’s resources, and will benefit from the School’s unique approach to hospitality and tourism education and research. The SHTM has been steadfast in its support to the UNWTO’s initiatives in extending the frontier of knowledge in the field of tourism. “As an Affiliate Member of the UNWTO and a world-class hotel and tourism school, we recognise the importance of human resource capacity building,” said Professor Kaye Chon, Dean and Chair Professor of the SHTM. “With our concerted efforts, we are committed to contribute to the development of a sustainable future in global tourism”.
