BEAVERTON, Oregon June 20, 2000 - Veicon Technology,
Inc., of Beaverton, Oregon, and Hotel Connect, Inc., of Wilsonville, Oregon,
announced a strategic partnership agreement to offer Veicons V-Link services
to hotel guests without laptop computers. Hotel Connect will use the V-Link
services to fulfill its contracts for telecommunications services for over
100,000 hotel rooms nationwide. With Veicons
V-Link services, visitors can check their own email accounts, access the Internet and use popular MS Office tools. We are extremely thrilled with the opportunity of deploying the V-Link Internet terminals at the hotels with which we already have contracts. V-Links patented Internet access service is specially designed for hotel guests. Instead of using low resolution TV screens, the V-Link service uses a high resolution display without using a PC, significantly lowering overall maintenance cost. With the industrys first under $500 non-PC Internet access device, the V-Link solution is ideal for in-room guest access to the Internet. said Tony Butler, CEO of Hotel Connect. Based on our strategic partnership agreement, Hotel Connect now offers a complete, end-to-end solution to hotel guests, whether they have their own laptop computer or not, offering choices of high-speed data ports or Internet access devices, added Ken Hessemer, VP of Sales and Business Development at Veicon Technology. Veicons V-Link Internet access devices include a 15 display screen, mouse, keyboard, and 10/100baseT network interface. These devices run Microsofts thin-client Windows environment, providing guests with a familiar user interface and popular software such as Internet browsers and office productivity software. V-Link employs Veicons patented software technology that provides unmatched file system protection, remote administration and both user and system security. V-Link terminals require much lower maintenance and provide greater security for both the users and the network than standard personal computers. Since there is no in-room PC to maintain, troubleshooting usually consists of turning the power off and on. Since theres no disk storage on the V-Link device, no user information is stored after the user logs off. Veicons patented software technology also wipes all evidence of each users private files and passwords off the main server and protects the server from hotel visitor hacker attacks. Tony Butler, CEO of Hotel Connect continues, Our partnership arrangement will be extremely synergistic and very powerful, as we now offer a cutting edge technology solution to our hotel customers, for people with or without laptop computers. Both companies have experienced management teams who understand both service and software business very well. Capitalizing the experience, Hotel Connect plans to install thousands V-Link Internet terminals for hotel guests in the next six months.
