Legal Issues  in Hospitality Law and Current Issues in
Hospitality Tourism Offered Online this Fall by
Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and
Restaurant Management
July 20, 2001 - The Executive Master of Hospitality Management Online (MHMOnLine) studies, Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, University of Houston, will offer two new courses for the September 1, 2001 trimester.

Legal Issues  in Hospitality Law, with Dr. Anthony Cabot, will study the application of law to the hospitality industry emphasizing the practical aspects of compliance and liability avoidance from the perspective of hotel management.  Current Issues in Hospitality Tourism, with Dr. Morgan Geddie, will analyze the interaction of economic and cultural influences of tourism and travel on the hospitality industry.  Both professors are recognized and published authors in hospitality management.

The OnLine Executive Masters program provides an opportunity for managers working in various sectors of the hospitality industry to earn a Master of Hospitality Management (M.H.M.) degree, entirely online, from one of the worlds most respected hospitality management programs. Participants can learn from any location on the globe in the comfort of their office or home, no campus visits are required.

Participant generally take two courses per trimester and complete the requirements of the program in two years, while continuing to work at their full-time jobs. The OnLine program is specifically designed for hospitality industry managers and professionals who want to improve their knowledge and ability in the hospitality industry. An earned bachelors degree from an accredited institution is required. Students who do not have a hospitality management degree may require additional courses.

Industry Experience Is Important and we understand that many candidates have significant industry experience and are at executive levels in the hospitality industry. For

In an OnLine course you are not on-campus as you would be in the classroom, but you will soon realize that, in many respects, it is the same. You will have a professor, fellow students, assignments, quizzes, presentations, and a syllabus with deadlines.

However, you have flexibility in hours, you work at convenient times, and you structure the class around your hours, instead of fighting traffic across town to be in class on time.

Additionally, there is a wealth of online resources, chat rooms and bulletin boards, which allow you to consider your questions at length before posting them. The chat room allows you to go online and "discuss" the class with the professor and your fellow students. The bulletin board posts threaded discussions that allows you to jump right to the area of concern, and private e-mail allows you to ask those questions that you don't want to share with the class. You can take a number of optional "self-evaluations" consisting of quizzes, which allows you to test your knowledge of each unit of work.

The amount of time you spend in class is equivalent to the amount of time you would spend in an on-campus classroom. You can expect to spend about 3 hours in study, research, and writing for each class meeting. Some courses will consume more of your time, some less.  You will soon get a feel for the amount of time you need to spend on each unit to insure your success.

Since online courses are student-centered and self-directed, you can determine your own path through the course, however, the instructor will impose deadlines on portions to determine if you are making satisfactory progress.

Once enrolled, you are a part of the Executive Master of Hospitality Management OnLine learning community, and you have a support group of faculty, staff, and students who will add to your learning experience.

No, not just another correspondence course, but a global experience.
those of you who are in this category, courses may be waived and substituted by an independent study or another elective course so that you can take advantage of the credit hours and choose courses that can enhance your learning experience.

The OnLine program covers essential areas of management through the study of cores subjects and electives with special areas of emphasis; finance, food and beverage, lodging, tourism, clubs, conventions, catering and other areas of interest. The only difference between the OnLine program and the traditional program is the method of delivery.
