Wayport To Acquire 9 of Laptop Lane's Airport Locations

;

AUSTIN, Texas Aug. 27, 2001 Wayport Inc., an industry leader in providing Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless and wired high-speed Internet access throughout airports and hotels, is expanding its airport footprint and lineup of airport business services for the traveler with the purchase of nine strategic Laptop Lane locations.

These high-profile Laptop Lane business centers, to be branded under the Wayport name, provide travelers with critical onsite business services. Amenities include private offices and meeting rooms equipped with high-speed Internet connectivity at speeds up to 50 times faster than standard modems, and conveniences like long-distance and conference calling capabilities, printer/fax/copier access and overnight packaging and shipping. Additionally, the business centers feature the latest in mobile accessories and devices, and a friendly knowledgeable customer support staff.

The Laptop Lane business centers weve chosen to acquire are in some of the worlds busiest airports. And, because they are in high traffic, convenient locations with a strong business model already in place, this is a perfect fit to our strategy, said Dave Vucina, CEO of Wayport. By adding these new locations, with high-speed Internet connectivity and a full-service business center, Wayport provides unparalleled service to meet the needs of the business traveler.

Under the terms of the agreement, Wayport will acquire the following Laptop Lane locations:

  • Three at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport (Worlds largest airport*)
  • Two at Chicago OHare International Airport (Worlds 2nd largest airport*)
  • One at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (Worlds 5th largest airport*)
  • One at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (17th largest U.S. airport*)
  • One at New York LaGuardia International Airport (19th largest U.S. airport*)
  • One at Salt Lake City International Airport (25th largest U.S. airport*)
Upon completion of the acquisition, Wayport will provide services at eleven airport locations within eight major-market airports. Currently, Wayport offers Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless Internet access throughout all terminals and gates at four airports including Dallas/Fort Worth International, Seattle-Tacoma International, San Jose International and Austin-Bergstrom International. The company plans to utilize the business center locations to support individual and corporate members who currently use Wayports all-wireless Internet airport solution, and to expand its Internet services in those airports
where it is not already present.

This acquisition reinforces Wayports ongoing commitment to expand our footprint and serve the needs of business travelers by providing high-speed Internet connectivity and value-added business services when and where they need it most in airports and hotels, said Dan Lowden, vice president of marketing for Wayport. Our individual and corporate members will find these new, convenient locations to be extremely valuable. By using Wayports business services and experiencing the latest in mobile devices and accessories, our customers will stay productive while on the road.
