Wayport Appoints Four New 
Key Executive Members
AUSTIN, Texas -- May 15, 2001 -- Wayport, Inc., today announced four key appointments to its executive management team.

Wayport named David Hampton, formerly with Singleentry, as chief financial officer and Daniel Lowden, previously with IBM, as vice president of marketing.  In addition, the company promoted Jim Keeler, Ph.D., to vice president of engineering development and Timothy G. Smith to vice president of network engineering.

"Each of these individuals contributes expertise that will be invaluable to Wayport during this exciting period in our company history," said Dave Vucina, chief executive officer of Wayport.  "With an established footprint of more than 350 hotel locations and several major airports, we are ideally positioned to take advantage of the substantial growth opportunities afforded by the increasing demand for high-speed Internet access.  Our executive team will focus on increasing the awareness and usage of our service among travelers, while continuing to fulfill our investors' and customers' expectations through astute financial management, future-proof technology and highly reliable networks."

As CFO, Hampton will be responsible for all financial operations of the company.  Hampton comes to Wayport from Singleentry, an Internet-based software provider to the insurance industry, where he served as chief financial officer.  Previously, at Netpliance, Inc., Hampton built a financial organization from the company's inception to its successful initial public offering.  Hampton also spent five years at Dell Computer Corporation, where he was responsible for a variety of financial and business analysis functions.

Lowden, in his role as vice president of marketing, will be responsible for Wayport's marketing strategies centering on location partners, individual and corporate membership programs, product management and channel partnerships.  Before joining Wayport, Lowden held a variety of key marketing roles within IBM's Personal Computing Division brands, including Americas mobile brand manager for the ThinkPad family of notebook computers and WorkPad handhelds as well as worldwide segment manager for the ThinkPad 700 Series.  Lowden's portable computing background also includes product management roles at NEC Technologies and Sharp Electronics.

Keeler joined Wayport in June 2000 as director of software engineering and most recently served as director of engineering development.  As vice president of engineering development, Keeler is responsible for software, hardware and Web engineering development for Wayport's high-speed Internet access solution.  Prior to joining Wayport, Keeler co-founded Pavilion Technologies, Inc., an enterprise optimization software company, where he performed key roles including chief technology officer, vice president of research and development, and senior vice president of solutions.

As vice president of network engineering, Smith is responsible for all aspects of network engineering, network operations and information technology infrastructure for Wayport.  Smith joined Wayport in 2000 as director of network engineering.  Previously, Smith spent five years at UUNET, the world's largest ISP prior to its acquisition by MCI WorldCom.  Most recently, he served as UUNET's director of infrastructure application development.  Smith also spent five years with Sun Microsystems, where he worked in federal special projects engineering.
