Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has appointed Peter Thompson
as General Manager of Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Bangkok
and Vice President & Area Managing Director Starwood Hotels & Resorts
(Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand). Thompson reports to Miguel Ko, President
of the Asia-Pacific Division based in Singapore.
Peter Thompson's tenure began with Sheraton in 1966 at the Sheraton Russell Hotel in New York. In 1972, he became General Manager of Sheraton Bangkok Hotel, the First Sheraton Hotel in Thailand. He moved on to Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, a 1,900 room Resort Convention Hotel in Hawaii and then was promoted to Vice President & General Manager at the Sheraton Perth Hotel in 1977. Promoted again to Senior Vice President and Area Manager for Australia/New Zealand in 1982 based at the Sheraton Wentworth Hotel in Sydney. He was also Vice President and General Manager at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel and Sheraton Towers Southgate, Melbourne. His previous position was General Manager, Sheraton On the Park, Sydney as well as Vice President & Area Managing Director, Australia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. The new appointment will strengthen the operational and business development leadership in each respective Starwood region. Peter Thompson, a General Manager and an Area Managing Director, is at the Vice President level, will be instrumental in driving consistent operational standards, increasing business delivery and managing good owner relations, and will work closely with the Acquisitions & Development team in the divisional office on growing our hotel portfolio, according to Miguel Ko.
