Daylight and Hitachi to Demonstrate OTA-Compliant
Web
Messaging Technology at HITEC
DOVER, NH - June 20, 2001 - Daylight Software has introduced the first-ever
two-way wireless messaging system for the hospitality industry and the
Opryland Hospitality Group will be the first customer to deploy the new
system. Opryland sales managers and others with appropriate security
can check availability, send leads and RFPs and even book business directly
into any Daylight system via cell phone, PDA or the Web.
Hotel sales managers and their customers continually need to answer
questions like, What's available in any of our properties for a group
of 100 for three nights during October 2002? Using the Daylight
Wireless Messaging system, an Opryland Hotel sales manager will be able
to find out in seconds - on a cell phone, wireless PDA or on any PC with
Web access. With this technology, the Opryland Hospitality Group
is removing all hurdles to booking group business in the companys new
properties in Kissimmee, Florida and Grapevine, Texas.
Daylight and Hitachi Innovative Solutions Corporation [HISC], a platform-independent
IT solutions provider, built Daylights Wireless Messaging system using
the Open Travel Alliance (OTA) Meeting Profile specification, draft 2001B,
a non-proprietary, industry-wide specification which Daylight led the effort
to develop. This powerful new specification allows all hotel systems
to engage in two-way exchanges of group meeting data of any kind.
The two companies will demonstrate this technology at the Hospitality Industry
Technology Exposition and Tradeshow [HITEC] held in Orlando, Fla. June
26-28 at Daylights booth, #633 and in HISCs booth, #1190.
Dianne Lee, Opryland Hospitality Groups director of business development,
says, "Daylight gives us an important selling advantage as we put our sales
team and our new products in front of customers - no muss no fussno delay.
We can give them an answer almost instantly. Perhaps most important
is the service level we can provide our highest volume customers.
They never have to wait. They can always see what's available for
them.
"This
is the beginning of a whole new phase in the hotel industry," said Bill
Duncan, president and CEO of Daylight. "The Daylight Wireless Messaging
system uses the OTA specification to send messages from any Web or wireless
device to Daylight...and get the answers back. This is the breakthrough
the hotel industry has needed to allow sales managers and, eventually,
meeting planners to check availability, issue RFPs and book group business
any time, any where."
Daylight and HISC worked closely together to design the new system.
The technology underlying Daylight Wireless Messaging system is Daylights
groundbreaking implementation of the OTA Meeting Profile specification
for exchanging group meeting data. HISC designed the wireless device
application, based upon its extensive wireless experience. Daylight
Wireless Messaging combines well-established Web technologies with emerging
XML and wireless technologies to deliver something the hotel industry has
long sought.
Daylight offers Daylight Wireless as an extension to its product line.
The system is immediately compatible with any existing Daylight enterprise
installation - no upgrades are required.
