Hogan Family Foundation and Loyola Marymount University Search for Director to Lead Tourism Management
Program at LMU
Westlake Village, CA - March 24, 2000 - In March 1999, the Hogan Family Foundation and Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles joined forces to create the Ed and Lynn Hogan Program in Travel and Tourism within the College of Business Administration at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.  LMU students now have the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a specialization in Travel and Tourism Management.  LMU and the Foundation are currently searching for a Director to lead the program.

Ed and Lynn Hogan, founders of Pleasant Holidays, whose generous contribution made this program possible, believe that the program should provide students with applied knowledge that will help them succeed in the travel and tourism industry.  Ed Hogan stated, I would like the research done in the program to be directed and utilized by the travel and tourism industry.  This program will become a catalyst in delivering practical travel and tourism research and results to the industry.  This will enable the students to obtain a caliber of travel and tourism education unlike any other program out there.  The Director chosen to lead the program, along with a top notch Board of Advisors, will make this happen.

The Director will have both real-world experience in the travel industry as well as academic credentials.  He or she must be knowledgeable of industry needs and will continue to develop the Programs practical curriculum, one that is useful to students who wish to pursue managerial and executive-level careers within the travel and tourism industry.  The responsibilities for the Director position include building strong relationships with travel companies, marketing the program to prospective students, recruiting faculty to teach courses, developing a practical research program, and overseeing program development and administration.  The Director may also teach courses as time permits.  Ideally, the Director will hold a doctorate.  The Foundation and LMU want to fill the position before the start of the fall 2000 semester.

Over 40 years ago, the Hogans opened Pleasant Travel Service, a small retail travel agency in Point Pleasant, NJ.  Today, the company is headquartered in Westlake Village, CA, and is the parent of several travel related businesses generating in excess of  $400 million annual revenue in travel services and employs more than 1,700 people.

The Hogan Family Foundation, established in 1998 with resources of $100 million, is a non-profit operating foundation dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of the importance of travel and tourism within our society and the world by creating and operating educational, humanitarian and civic-minded programs that encourage meaningful communication between people of all cultures. Interested applicants should contact the Hogan Family Foundation at (805) 744-6226 and/or write to Dr. John T. Wholihan Dean, College of Business Administration Loyola Marymount University 7900 Loyola Boulevard Los Angeles, CA  90045-8395. Applications should be received no later than May 31, 2000.
