Phoenix, AZ, June, 1999 - The Legacy Golf Resort,
currently under construction in the scenic foothills of the South Mountain
region of Phoenix, Arizona, is the first golf resort opening in the Phoenix
Metropolitan area in more than ten years*. This four-star caliber
resort, complete with deluxe suite accommodations, an 18-hole championship
golf course, a clubhouse, a health club facility, numerous recreational
amenities and 450 homesites is scheduled to open in October, 1999.
South Mountain has become a mecca for developers in recent years.
The historic land enticed local developers, Sunbelt Holdings and Carefree
Partners as well as Chicago-based Shell Vacations, to come together and
create a new resort which embodies the rich heritage of the land.
The Legacy Golf Resort will offer all of the advantages of resort travel
while preserving the regions rich history.
The
Legacy Golf Resort has been in the planning stages for several years,
commented Sandra Esparza, Western Regional Vice President for Shell Hospitality
Group. The developers wanted to be sure that the resort, being the
first of its kind in Phoenix in more than ten years, provides the ultimate
experience for guests and golfers. The attention to detail, extraordinary
views from the property and expertly designed golf course truly set The
Legacy Golf Resort apart.
The Legacy Golf Resorts Southwest style will incorporate traditional
Spanish mission-style architecture and unique vegetation, introduced to
the area by the Heard family, into the resorts design. The resorts
328 suites each offer the comfort of spacious living, featuring a full
kitchen, a separate bedroom, a work area and patio or balcony as well as
the flexibility of being converted into a two-bedroom suite using the connecting
room option. Hosting an 18-hole championship golf course, designed
by renowned golf course architect, Gary Panks, The Legacy Golf Resort will
be ideal for golfers of all skill levels, offering challenging fairways
surrounded by the splendor of tropical horticulture. In addition,
the resorts pro shop, In Celebration of Golf, will offer a unique shopping
experience while catering to the needs of the avid golfer.
*The last golf resort to have opened in Phoenix was the Phoenician in
October 1988, according to Warnick & Co.
