COLUMBUS, Ohio - Dec 10, 1998 - Red Roof Inns, Inc. (NYSE:RRI),
one of the leading economy lodging chains in the United States, continues
to rapidly expand across the country with its franchising program. The
chain has opened seven new franchised Inns in California,
Florida, Texas, Ohio and Kentucky since the end of October. Beating their goal of 20 new franchised Inns this year, Red Roof Inns has opened 28 franchised properties in 1998, and the year is not yet complete. In total, 33 franchised Inns are flying the Red Roof flag, and a strong pipeline of additional Inns is under development. "As we rapidly expand through franchising, Red Roof Inns will soon be
in every travel destination across the country. We currently have franchised
Inns opening weekly and expect to continue to grow at this rate through

All seven of the new franchised Inns completed extensive renovations
before converting to the Red Roof flag. Three of the Inns are owned and
operated by Campbell Motel Properties, Inc., and were formerly Travelers
Inns. They are located in Buena Park, Calif., Thousand
Additionally, Inns were opened in Pensacola and Kissimmee, Fla. The Kissimmee Red Roof Inn - Resort at Maingate is located at the entrance to Disney World, and with 442-rooms, it is the largest Red Roof Inn to date.
