Yesterday, at approximately 7:20 p.m., local time, a bomb
exploded at a Planet Hollywood franchise in Cape Town, South Africa. Most
sadly, there has been one (1) confirmed fatality and numerous injuries
to both South Africans and vacationing tourists. On behalf of all of its
celebrity partners and thousands of dedicated and concerned employees worldwide,
Planet Hollywood extends its sincerest sympathies and prayers to all of
the injured, their families and friends.
We greatly appreciate the overwhelming support we are receiving from
the World Community. We particularly value President Nelson Mandela's statements
in support of the victims and the outstanding job local law enforcement
authorities are doing with the investigation of this heinous crime. We
further understand that United States Federal Bureau of Investigation agents
have been dispatched to Cape Town to aid in the investigation. We pray
that justice comes quickly.
Although this was an isolated event and our confidence that law enforcement
authorities will swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice, we and our
fellow restaurant industry colleagues with overseas locations have all
stepped up our security measures, both domestically and abroad.
Planet Hollywood International's complete focus will be to assist the
injured, the families of the injured and deceased, and the understandably
traumatized Cape Town employees. Towards that commitment, Planet Hollywood
International has dispatched corporate employees and agents to Cape Town
to provide support to victims and their families. Local employees have
donated blood for the victims and have visited the injured at local hospitals.
The safety and welfare of our guests and employees is, and will always
be, our primary concern. Again, our hearts and prayers go out to the injured
and their loved ones. |
