COSTA MESA, California, USA - May 9, 2012 -- The host of the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS) announced the winner of the prestigious Development of the Year Award at the conference, on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami hotel in Miami, Florida, USA.  CHRIS is hosted by Burba Hotel Network (BHN).

In the category of Development of the Year 2011, the winner is Secret Bay Dominica.  Opened in June 2011, the intimate Secret Bay Hotel is located in the island of Dominica, on the Eastern Caribbean, and was developed by Secret Bay Development Limited Company at a cost of US$2.2 million.  The property features four villas and bungalows atop wooden superstructures, perched like tree houses on a cliff.  Nominees in the Development of the Year 2011 category also included Buccament Bay Resort and Fishing Lodge Cap Cana.

Rogerio Basso chaired the Development of the Year Award committee that was comprised of hotel industry leaders who selected, reviewed, and nominated deals.  The finalist information was sent to the CHRIS delegates for voting.
