News for the Hospitality Executive
MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OHIO—August 24, 2011—Green Lodging News, a Hasek Communications L.L.C. publication, is celebrating its five-year anniversary with the launch of a new Renewable Energy All Stars section on its website: www.greenlodgingnews.com. The All Stars section honors those properties that have at least one of the following: wind turbine(s), solar panels (for generating electricity or heating hot water), geothermal system for heating and cooling, or a system that generates electricity through hydropower—the gravitational force of falling or flowing water.
“We have created this section to not only honor those who have invested in renewable energy but to also create a kind of networking system, if you will,” says Glenn Hasek, publisher and editor of Green Lodging News. “If you are considering renewable energy for your property, you can link to another property’s website, contact the owner or operator, and ask any question you would like about system cost, vendors used, lessons learned, etc. In addition to providing links to property sites, we have also included links, where possible, to related articles that have appeared on Green Lodging News. It is our hope that by including this section, an increasing number of lodging establishment owners will choose renewable energy systems to meet part, or even all of their energy needs.”
The All Stars section currently includes 173 properties—133 in Solar Powered, 19 in Wind Powered, 18 in Geothermal Powered, and 3 in Hydroelectric Powered. Initially, Green Lodging News will concentrate on including properties in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America. There are some properties included that are located outside those areas.
“If you believe your property or another property deserves to be included in the All Stars section but currently is not, please contact me,” Hasek says. “With your assistance, I can make the section even more complete than it already is.”
Green Lodging News’ Beginnings
Green Lodging News was launched in the summer of 2006 by Glenn Hasek, president of Hasek Communications L.L.C. Hasek is a veteran lodging industry journalist, having gotten his start with Hotel & Motel Management magazine (now Hotel Management) in 1989. He first wrote about green issues in the travel industry in 1990.
“In 2005 the interest in green building and other environment-related topics was just beginning to accelerate,” Hasek says. “Other lodging trade publications were covering green issues but nowhere near enough. I saw an opportunity to fill that coverage void. With a lot of hard work, almost 20,000 people each month now read Green Lodging News content.”
Green Lodging News includes a Green Product & Service Directory, Vendor Videos and More Cool Videos sections, News Blog, Twitter Feed, Facebook link, and news departments including: News & Features, Vendor News, Publisher’s Point of View, Guest Columns, Energy Management, Waste Management, Lighting, Water Conservation, Heating & Cooling, Cleaning & Maintenance, Air Quality, Kitchen & Laundry, Green Design, Sales & Marketing, Sustainability, Vendor Case Studies, Green Hotel Focus, Personnel Profile, Green Organizations, Certification Programs, Hotel Schools, Events, and Money-Saving Tips.
“I owe a lot to the many sponsors who have supported Green Lodging News over the last five years—especially our Founding Sponsors,” Hasek says. “I also wish to thank partners such as Hotel News Resource and Sustainable Travel International for publishing Green Lodging News content. I look forward to many more years of success with Green Lodging News.”
