Home2 Suites By Hilton® and The Generation Companies to Build 122-room
North Charleston Home2 Suites in North Charleston, South Carolina

North Charleston, SC.  (March 31, 2011) – The Generation Companies, LLC (Generation) is partnering with Home2 Suites by Hilton to put the next hip and humble hotel on the map with today’s groundbreaking in North Charleston, SC.

Home2 Suites, a mid-tier, all-suite hotel designed with a “hip and humble” approach to extended-stay travel, is the first brand Hilton Worldwide has launched in 20 years. It already has two properties open in Fayetteville, NC and Layton, UT., with another 63 hotels planned and 40 in the development stage. Developed by The Generation Companies, LLC the North Charleston Home2 Suites will be located at 3401 West Montague Avenue, near Charleston International Airport. It is slated for completion in late 2011 or early 2012.

“We’re delighted that Generation is breaking ground on a Home2 Suites in North Charleston today,” said Bill Duncan, global head, Home2 Suites. “They are one of our award-winning partners in the extended-stay community. This is an exciting opportunity for the brand to expand to a community already buzzing with activity in the hospitality industry.  The city is a center of tourism and travel along the South Carolina coast, especially with the nearby Charleston Air Force Base and naval complex and Home2 Suites will offer guests a modern, comfortable new place to stay.”

To commemorate the groundbreaking, Duncan joined Generation and Hilton executives, as well as city officials for an onsite ceremonial first dig. Everyone in attendance received a live oak tree to take home, courtesy of The Generation Companies, in celebration of the growing Home2 Suites brand and its new roots in the North Charleston community. The Generation Companies donated additional live oak trees to the city of North Charleston following the event.

“With Generation and Hilton Worldwide’s considerable investment in our community, these leaders in hotels are proving North Charleston’s market is still in need of extended-stay accommodations to meet the demands of our businesses and visitors,” said North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey. “Adjacent to the North Charleston Coliseum Complex and just a short drive from anywhere in the Lowcountry, Home2 Suites’ convenient and central location is sure to attract guests with ease.”

Jeff Castleberry, director of acquisitions and development for The Generation Companies, agreed the Home2 Suites concept is a fitting addition to the area.

“We think Home2 Suites will be a great fit for the Charleston market’s diverse demand for business, tourism and military accommodations,” said Castleberry. “The new brand has something to offer everyone, from the 30 double queen rooms perfect for families visiting the military bases, to a stylish, yet comfortable design that appeals to guests attending events at the Performing Arts Center. The Home2 Suites style and its modern amenities make any traveler feel at home.”

The Generation Companies and Hilton Worldwide identified North Charleston as an ideal site for the next Home2 Suites property because of the region’s diverse business community, leisure attractions and military establishments. Charleston’s geographic location and historic past lend to both a bustling tourism industry and a position as a major naval and shipping center.  In addition to its status as a top ten U.S. tourist destination, Charleston hosts numerous cruise ship departures throughout the year and is home to the Charleston Air Force base, the Space & Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic and the Naval Weapons Station.  Other local attractions, such as the Charleston Area Convention Center Complex and Tanger Outlet Mall, educational institutions like the Medical University of South Carolina and The Citadel, and major employers like Boeing, the U.S. Navy and Verizon, also help drive an increasing demand for extended-stay options in and around Charleston.

The North Charleston Home2 Suites will be a 122-room, four-story extended-stay hotel designed to feel like a home away from home for budget-conscious business and leisure travelers.  The hotel will emphasize comfort and flexibility, with the extensive array of amenities standard in all Home2 Suites hotels, easy access to technology and a bright, inviting community space.

In developing the concept of the brand, the Home2 Suites team found research shows guests in extended-stay situations seek community and connection after several days, even if it means they are singularly working among others in a common space.  To help address that need, all Home2 Suites properties feature an open lobby area with an approximately 4,200 square foot community space called the “Oasis.”  The Oasis, which includes communal and individual work zones, wireless access, a 52” flat-screen TV and an expansive complimentary continental breakfast service is designed to encourage a social environment where guests can relax together, research the local area, check e-mail and enjoy an assortment of hospitality resources unrivaled in this segment of the hotel industry.  The Home2 Suites “Inspired Table” breakfast offers such a wide variety of continental and customizable breakfast options, including breads, pastries, hot and cold cereals, select hot food items and unique toppings, that a guest could have a different breakfast each day for 70 days without repeating.

All guest suites at the new North Charleston property will include a variety of modern features and amenities, such as the proprietary Home2 Suites “working wall,” which incorporates the kitchen and flexible working space connecting separate living and bedroom zones.  A fully accessorized kitchen will contain a refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, place settings for six, microwave oven and coffee maker, and the media/working zone will feature a queen size sofa/sleeper, 42-inch flat screen TV, roll-around ottoman, ambient task lighting and an iHome alarm clock with iPod port and MP3 jack.  Various pieces of furniture in each of the suites will also be designed to move around, allowing guests to create customized living spaces and adjustable storage options.  Other highlights of the Home2 Suites brand are the Home2 MKT for grab-and-go items, an integrated guest laundry and fitness room, a saline pool, patios with grills, outdoor seating areas and an exercise trail.

The Home2 Suites brand is committed to environmentally conscious practices and has been incorporating a number of sustainable living fixtures and services into all new hotels.  In addition to recycling throughout the hotel, guest suites feature low flow showers and faucets, biodegradable food trays, compact fluorescent light bulbs, dual flush toilets, recycled flooring, Energy Star appliances, carpet and surfaces made from recycled product and other sustainable product selections. Home2 Suites is also rolling out Hilton portfolio of brand’s proprietary LightStay system, which measures energy and water use and waste and carbon output at Hilton Worldwide properties around the globe.
